Funeral service will be 12 Noon Friday, February 25, 2022 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Linn Schiefer officiating.

Interment will follow in Beall’s Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Luverna Jane (Singleton) James, 94, of Exchange passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

She was born in Exchange, WV on April 11, 1927 to the late Albert B. and Fannie Taylor Singleton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Della Mae James; husband, Russell D. James; brother, Carl Singleton; sisters, Lucille Garcia, Capitola “Toots” Cain, Betty Davis, Freda Payton and Carol Danes.

Luverna was a homemaker, excellent cook and loved to garden and can her vegetables.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and a hearty laugh that was contagious.  She loved to play canasta, rummy, work puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles.  Luverna was talented at quilting and crocheting and gifted many afghans to her friends.  She was known as “Granny” to many who loved her and will miss her.

Left to cherish her memory are Jay and Reva Gaston; George, Deborah, Catharine and Rosalind Street; Blaine and Ruby Fincham; Eva Marie Tonkin, Marge friend, Sue Loyd and many nieces and nephews.
