Christopher “Chris” William Kinder, 52, of Saint Albans passed away on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at Thomas Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Chris was born on September 21st, 1971, in South Charleston, WV. He was a 1989 graduate of Spencer High School where he wrestled and played football. Thereafter, he joined the United States Army as active duty and fought for his country during Operation Just Cause in Panama; Where he received personal accolades from former President George H.W. Bush for his war efforts where they were an outstanding operational success. Chris had a two-year stint in college before he decided to make his dream a reality by starting his own construction company. He had always loved building construction, was an excellent mathematician, and could bring to life what was once only a drawing on paper. While level-headed in business, he was what anyone would call a soft-hearted family man down to his core. Chris passed his love of building onto his two sons whom he taught all he knew in the trade, hoping for them to succeed him with Start to Finish Construction.

Chris had a love for the Pittsburg Steelers that turned him into an avid hat collector of his favorite team. He enjoyed coaching baseball for many years as well as golfing with family and friends. Dungeons & Dragons was his staple pastime that he had taught his kids and nephews how to play as well.

Chris with his wife, Daevona, raised a beautiful family of five overflowing with an abundance of love and laughter. Although there were many trials and tribulations along the way, they always stuck together and loved each other more than anything in this world as they were each other’s world. He cherished most of all spending time with his family and friends, making as many good memories as possible. His grandchildren were the light in his life and gave him hope for better days. They always wanted to play with their Pawpaw because he was a kid at heart just like them.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Andy Kinder.

Left to carry on his memory are his loving wife of nearly three decades, Daevona Rae McCracken Kinder; daughter, Mary McCracken and fiancée, Steven Jeffers; sons, Christian Freeze and wife, Kasey, and Stanley Kinder; parents, Stanley Leon Kinder and Sandra Lee Hartwell Kinder; grandchildren, Thomas Freeze, Samuel Freeze, Bentley Freeze, and Avery Jeffers; brother, Steve Kinder and wife, Misti; sister-in-law, Jennifer Kinder; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Chris’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life is being held during Memorial Day weekend.
