Henry Louis Jack, 73, of Exchange, passed away at his home peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

He was born on November 19, 1947 in Sutton, WV to the late William Walter and Virginia Louise Metheny Jack. He grew up on a farm in Exchange, WV.

Henry graduated from Gassaway High School in 1965. He attended classes at Marshall University then completed his degree from California State University, Long Beach.

Henry was a fun loving and free spirited man who truly enjoyed life.  He loved traveling and exploring the world.  He loved to share stories about when he was a young man and how he hitchhiked all the way to California from his home on the farm.  He was an avid sports fanatic too. He loved watching any kind of sporting event either in person or on television. Henry enjoyed music and was quite the dancer. He used to love to go dancing with his wife, Dolly, any chance they got. He enjoyed singing Karaoke to some of his favorite songs like, Heard it through the Grapevine, and Born in the USA.  Henry loved fine dining and any event that included a feast. He loved being at home surrounded by family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was always the first to volunteer to jump right in, no matter what the kids wanted to get into, whether it be a game of badminton or volleyball or making brownies and popping popcorn to play board games or watch movies together; Henry was there to make it happen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly, who passed away on March 11, 2016.  In addition to his parents, Henry was also preceded in death his brothers Walter Lane Jack and David Lynn Jack, Sr.; and nephew, David Lynn “Baby Dave” Jack, Jr.

Henry is survived by his stepson, Danny Brent Vaughan and his wife, Nina of Flatwoods, WV; stepdaughters, Jan Lynn Vaughan (Dawn Wanzo) of Belpre, OH, and Brenda Lee Vaughan of Exchange, WV; grandchildren, Danny Brent Vaughan, Jr. (Amanda), Dustin Lee Vaughan (Julie), Nina Cassandra Vaughan (Josh Daugherty), Tabatha Nicole Huffman (Jimmy), Kenneth Tyler Bookheimer, Taylor Danielle Bookheimer, and Gabrielle Mackenzie Graham (Oscar Pineda); and great grandchildren, Noah Lee and Connor Michael Vaughan, Jeremiah Alexander and Emmaleigh Christine Miller, and Haylee Grace Vaughan, Carson Hays, Wyatt Clark, Levi Kimble, (and another baby on the way) Huffman, and Piper Jade Allen.  He is also survived by his sisters, Jo Ellen Smith and husband, Erman, and Lou Ann Gaines and husband, Lloyd; “favorite “niece, Karen Abraham and husband Dale, and their children, who were also like grandchildren to Henry; Jocelyn Rayne, Mason Jack, SkyLynn Davidson, and Mallory Dawn Abraham; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Henry was the most amazing husband, brother, uncle, stepdad, grandpa, and great grandpa you could ever ask for and always went above and beyond for all of us.  We feel so deeply blessed to have shared our lives with him and we will cherish all the wonderful memories we made together as a family.

In keeping with Henry’s wishes he will be cremated and a private family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
