The family will hold a private graveside service at the Belknap Cemetery on Chapel Road in Gassaway.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Parkersburg, 530 29th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101 or your local animal shelter.

Alta Mae Gerwig Jenkins, 87, passed away on September 13, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Criss and Bea Dobbins Gerwig. She was born on March 30, 1934 at Knapp, Gassaway, WV.

Alta Mae attended the Engel One Room School through 6th grade, and graduated from Gassaway High School in 1952. Alta Mae worked for Challenger of Parkersburg/Vienna for over 30 years. She was a Christian who loved family and friends with her whole heart, enjoyed spending time with them, and cooking for everyone. She was a huge Elvis fan and had several pet puppies throughout the years; most recently her pet Jazzy, who was her shadow. Alta Mae made a positive, kindhearted impression on everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by beloved daughter, Diana Lynn Jenkins; brother-in-law, Russ Shepherd; and sister-in-law, Elsie Gerwig.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shawnna (Dino) Villarreal; son, Randy Jenkins, and son of her heart, Bradley Stewart. She is also survived by her brother, William Matthew Gerwig of Ridgeley, WV; and sisters, Marilyn (Johnnie) James, Gassaway, and Joy Shepherd, Elkins. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families who miss her dearly, including: Carolyn, Sandy, Christy, Cheryl, Michael, Jackie, Marci, Scott, and Matthew, as well as many cousins.
