Bernard’s graveside service will be 2 P.M. Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery, Chapel with Pastor Bill Carr officiating.

Bernard Wesley Greathouse, Sr., 89, of Gassaway passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 surrounded by family at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville, WV.

He was born August 9, 1931 in Sutton, a son of the late Daniel and Vera McMowery Greathouse.

In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Rosetta Ables Greathouse; son, Robert Ables; two sisters; and one half brother.

Bernard was a US Army Veteran and served as an Army Medic stationed in California.  He was an entrepreneur and helped start the concrete company in Gassaway.  He was employed by the Kenton Meadows Company.  He retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways as head mechanic.  Bernard provided a service to his community for 30 years as owner of Greathouse and Son Garage and Towing. His true passion was restoring antique cars.  Occasionally he would watch the Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke or a Western.  He was a hardworking and interesting man.  He was a Christian by faith.

He will be forever remembered  by his children, Bernard Greathouse Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Grantsville, Kimberly Demastus of Gassaway, James “Rusty” Greathouse of Gassaway, and Jackie Rader and husband, Woody, of Flatwoods; brother, Jimmy Greathouse of New Cumberland, WV; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
