Lou’s funeral will be 1 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Joseph Truman officiating. Interment will follow in the Bail Cemetery, Strange Creek.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lura “Lou” Lester Houghton Carte, 78, of Strange Creek, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at CAMC Memorial Hospice Care, Charleston, WV with her family by her side.

She was born in Pineville, WV on October 18, 1943 to the late Lawrence and Lillie Farley Lester.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cledith Houghton and her second husband, Reggie Carte; three sisters and four brothers.

Lou was a homemaker and a caregiver. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Quilting was also one of her favorite pastimes. On the television she enjoyed watching westerns, including Gunsmoke and Cheyenne and game shows. She was a member of Eureka Methodist Church and was a Christian by faith.

She will be forever remembered by her daughters, Lisa Young and husband, Ronnie, Beverly Young and husband, Johnny, and Teresa Rose and husband, Donald, all of Strange Creek; grandchildren, Mark Young and wife, Skylar, Nathan Young and Ryan Young all of Strange Creek, John Rose and Derek Rose both of Little Birch, and Clayton Eagle of Oak Island, NC. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Colton Young, Jessa Young, Darrell Rose, Teagan Rose, Matthew Rose, Sora Rose, Kenshin Rose, Katurah Rose, Azariah Rose, Shechaniah Rose, Lakyen Rose, and Everett Eagle; and several nieces and nephews.
