Norma “Aleece” Smith, 85, of Sutton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 23, 2026, while she was home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 2, 1940, to the late Dr. Earl L. Fisher and Anna Margaret Skidmore Fisher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Jeff Woodward; and her ex-husband, John Francis Smith.

Aleece was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Gassaway United Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir and shared her musical talent by playing the piano. She had a love for travel and was fortunate to visit many places, including Egypt. Aleece also enjoyed quilting and spending time at the piano, hobbies that brought her great joy.

She was a graduate of Gassaway High School, Class of 1958, and later attended WV Wesleyan College. Aleece was well known in the community through her work at her father’s medical practice in downtown Gassaway, where she built many lasting friendships. Her warm personality and ever-present smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Above all, Aleece cherished her role as “Nanny” to her family and found her greatest happiness in spending time with them.

Aleece leaves behind her daughters, Jerri Oney and husband, Shane, and Cindy Hoover and husband, Rob, of Sutton; son, Jon Smith and wife, Beth, of Sutton; grandchildren, Brianna Hoover-Tennant and husband, Gregory, Aaron Hoover and wife, Roxanne, Ethan Hoover and wife, Montana, Jesse Gregory and wife, Kellie, Madison Rollyson and husband, Josh, Chase Oney and wife, Leah Oney, Adam Oney and wife, Amanda; great grandchildren, Skylar Duckworth, Bowen, Ivy and Brooks Hoover, Brixon Hoover, Mya, Emma and River Gregory, Wyatt and Makenna Robinson, Lucy, Saige and Bella Rollyson, Kenna and Creed Oney, and Seith and Hailey Oney. She is also survived by her sister, Becky Woodward and husband, Don, of Sutton; niece, Kelli Carroll and husband, Justin; nephew, Justin Woodward and wife, Kelly.

Her visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Aleece’s funeral will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, March 29th at Gassaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Burrough and Pastor Steve White officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fisher Family Cemetery, Flatwoods.
