It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of JoAnn Walker Truman. Born July 18, 1937, to the late Homer “Bug” Walker and Elva Dawson Walker, JoAnn went to her eternal home on March 26, 2026.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Walker Frame, Betty Walker Eagle Cooper, and Yvonne Walker Moore; her baby brother, Bobby Walker; and the love of her life, Okey “Doc” Truman, to whom she was happily married for 59 years.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Truman with wife, Terrie, a daughter-in-law by marriage but a daughter by heart; her daughter, Luella Truman Gunter (Jeff); her grandchildren, Jacob Truman (Leslie), Joshua Truman, Olivia Truman Williams, Avery Gunter, Anna Gunter, and Emma Gunter; and her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Camryn, and Lyla. She also leaves behind her sister, Ella Walker May; her brother, James (Jim) Walker; her sister-in-law, Joan Dawson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was deeply devoted to her faith as a Baptist, as well as to her husband, her children, her career, and her community. Upon graduating from Gassaway High School in 1955, she began her career at the Bank of Gassaway as a secretary and went on to retire in May 2014 as the first and only female CEO and Senior Vice President, after 59 years of dedicated service. Throughout her career, she touched many lives and made a lasting difference for countless people. She took great pride in caring for her children and grandchildren, and her legacy will live on through the values of selfless giving that she exemplified in her daily life. She showed her family what being a “mom and gram-mam” truly meant.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Truman Family Cemetery, Servia WV on March 30, 2026, at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider performing a selfless act of kindness to honor Joann’s memory and her values.
