A celebration of her life will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Gassaway Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Stump and Jimmy Shaver officiating.

The visitation for family and friends will be two hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Gassaway Public Library, 536 Elk Street, Gassaway, WV 26624 or to the Braxton County Senior Citizens Center, 23 Sr. Center Drive, Sutton, WV 26601.

The family would like to give special thanks to WV Caring and Braxton Health Care Center for their compassionate care of Beverly.

Beverly Mills Robinson Cottrill, 86, passed from this life into eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Braxton Health Care Center, Sutton, WV after a long illness with her husband of 66 years (and family) by her side.

She was born May 27, 1937, to the late Edwin C. Robinson and Isabell Smith Robinson. She was a 1956 graduate of R.W. High School in Clarksburg, WV. On June 21, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Irvin James “I.J.” Cottrill in her parents’ home.

In 1967 their family moved from Clarksburg, to Gassaway, WV for work where they fell in love with the town of Gassaway, the Braxton Community and their church, Gassaway Baptist Church. In 1973, Beverly became one of two employees as secretary of the newly established Braxton County Senior Center. She worked for the Senior Center until she retired in 2002. As secretary, then director, she watched it grow to become an active and thriving part of Braxton County serving many seniors in the community to this day. Retirement did not stop Beverly, as she soon became employed at the Gassaway Library where she became director until 2022.

Beverly was a member of the Gassaway Baptist Church since February 1968. She was a very active volunteer, while she was able, who played the piano, sang in the choir, directed and taught Bible School, organized Operation Christmas Child, participated in the Prayer Ministry, and Church Clerk among other ministries. Her love for her Lord and Savior was truly evident in her serving heart and her need to leave the world a better place before she left it.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, I.J. Cottrill of Gassaway, WV; sister, Jane Eddy Bragg of Clarksburg: daughters, Jill C. Knight of Summersville, WV; Elizabeth “Betsy” (Gary) Rexroad of Gassaway, WV; sons, James “Jimmy” (Kathy) Cottrill of Ireland, WV, Richard “Scott” (Pam) Cottrill of Heaters, WV; grandchildren, Joshua Knight (Desiree Phillips) of Flatwoods, WV, Bryan Knight of Searcy, Arkansas, Travis Rexroad (Josh Marnitz) of Los Angeles, California, Ryan (Emma) Rexroad of Teays Valley, WV, Jacobi (Zach) Hineman of Brunswick, Georgia, Heath Cottrill (Courtney McVicker) of Morgantown, WV, Justin (Samantha) Groff of Heaters, WV, and Matthew Shingler of Frametown, WV.

She is also survived by great grandchildren, Charli and Scout Rexroad, Haylee Knight, Rylleigh Groff, Cooper Shingler and Mayson Shingler.

Beverly chose to continue to give by donating her body to West Virginia University School of Medicine.
