Bobby Darrell Carr, aka “Pop”, 86, of Gassaway passed away peacefully in his sleep with a smile on his face, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Braxton Healthcare Center, Sutton.

In his younger years he worked with his friends on the pipeline in New York City. In 1956, he went to work for Island Creek Coal Company, District 31, Local 1466 in Craigsville, WV until he retired in 1990, for 35 years.

He loved any kind of hunting, be it rabbit, squirrel or deer. His favorite was coon hunting with his favorite dog, Amos. His favorite pastime was playing his guitar with all his good buddies but he enjoyed it most when he was playing guitars with his daughter, Phyllis and grandson, Tony. He also loved playing and singing with his wife, Belva. In his older years he loved watching westerns and The Marty Stuart show. He also enjoyed listening to the BCHS Eagle football games on the radio, he was a true fan. He loved watching his grandsons play and coach Eagles Football where he also “adopted” a lot of the players as his own. He also loved hearing about and watching his granddaughters play Eagles volleyball.

He was a strong believer in God and loved a good laugh. He loved to pick on everyone. He loved his family dearly.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Rachel Carr and his sister, Marguerite.

Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life for 67 years, Belva Schrader Carr; his twin brother, Bill (Thelma) Carr of Gassaway; and one sister-in-law, Beulah (Pierre) Montiel of Baltimore, Maryland; his children that he was extremely proud of, Bobby Jr. (Jane) Carr of Gassaway, Mary (Ronny) Rexroad of Gassaway and Phyllis (Joey) Browning of Gassaway; his grandchildren that he loved dearly, Rob (Kelley) Carr of Buckhannon, Tony (Courtney) Carr of Gassaway, Bryan (Ashley) Carr of Bluefield, Rachel (Jordan) Cutlip of Gassaway, Hunter (Kaysee) Browning of Gassaway and Grace (Jimmy) Riffle of Burnsville; his most precious great grandchildren, Alexis, Colt, Caroline, Madi, Ella, Charlotte, Layden and Lanette. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a friend to all that knew him and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.

Bobby’s visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

His funeral will be 11 A.M. Friday, December 29, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Lovely officiating.
