Carolyn Sue Cowger Cavender, 65, of Gassaway passed unexpectedly after a brief illness on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

She was born in Gassaway on June 29, 1959, to the late John Morgan Cowger and Barbara Kay Sands Cowger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Cavender and sister, Nancy Brady.

Sue was a hardworking, upbeat individual who spent her life caring for others. She met the love of her life, her husband, while she was working for a bridge construction company. After several years her and Barney welcomed their only daughter to the world. Sue quit work to take care of Allie, then when her parents’ health failed, she moved back to Braxton County to care for them. Sue employed herself and was passionate at caregiving for the elderly. She enjoyed helping others, spending time with her family, meeting friends and drinking coffee. Her daughter and her granddaughters were her pride and joy. Sue’s positive attitude will be forever missed. We are reminded that life is too short sometimes.

She leaves behind her daughter, Allie Cavender (Will) of Gassaway; granddaughters, Grace Leighton Cavender and Willow Jade Cavender; sisters, Ruth Bishop (Chester) and Kay Simons both of Gassaway; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be 1 P.M. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Burial will follow in the Cowger Cemetery, Gassaway with Reverend Chris Cowger officiating.

Sue’s visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
