Dana C. Friend, 83, of Gassaway passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Clay Health Care Center.

He was born March 15, 1937 in Braxton County to the late Lewis A. and Susie M. Foster Friend.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Darrell Uldrich, John Dean, and Basil Friend.

Dana enjoyed being a minister and he had a heart of service for the Lord.  At one point he ministered to 11 churches.  He retired from the Heaters United Methodist Charge.  He was former Sheriff of Braxton County.  He also worked for the West Virginia Depart of Highways as a parts runner.  He loved to hunt and fish.  He was a jovial man as he enjoyed joking and laughing with others.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 62 years, Eda Sue Hacker Friend of Gassaway; daughter, Becky Harris and husband, David, of Gassaway; brother, Fred Friend and wife, Gaythel of Gassaway.  Dana is also survived by his grandchildren, Christa Flannigan and husband, Adam, Nyssa Carroll and husband, John, and Joni May; great grandchildren, Jon Flannigan, Adana Flannigan, Aliyah Cooke, Damion Cooke, Josh Carr, and one expected great grandchild.

Graveside service will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Hacker Family Cemetery, Tunnel Fork, Gassaway with Pastor Jim Criner officiating.
