Karen Sue Shaffer, 72, of Sutton, entered into her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

She was born on May 12, 1954, in Sutton, WV to the late Victor Lewis Utt and Violet Rose Holmes Utt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Utt.

In her earlier years, Karen worked at the former Skidmore’s truck stop and the food court at Flatwoods Outlet Mall. She enjoyed reading romance novels and Scripture, and she could often be found watching music and educational videos on YouTube. Karen loved gardening, especially the seasons of sowing and harvest, and grew both vegetables and flowers. She also collected antiques and keepsakes for her home. Caring for boxer-breed dogs and chickens was among her favorite pastimes. She graduated from Braxton County High School with the Class of 1973.

Left to cherish her memories are her only daughter, Misty McWilliams and husband, Chuck, of Naples, Florida and their children, Devin, Cameron, Madison, Thorne, and Brooklyn; two great grandchildren, Enzo and Finn; siblings, Sharon Hosey and husband, Burnell, of Sutton, Michael Utt of Ohio, Victor Utt and wife, Linda, of Gassaway, Dennis Utt and wife, Lori, of Cowen, Tommy Utt and wife, Tracy, of Sutton, Bryan Utt and wife, Kim, of Sutton and Jerry Utt and wife, Tonya, of Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.

She will be cremated and a private gathering will be held at a later date.
