Gretchel Denise Bartlett passed away in her home on February 6, 2023.

She attended Clay County High School before enlisting in the United States Army in 1973.  Gretchel dedicated her career to caring for others as a U.S. Army active-duty nurse for 21 years and a U.S. Army civil service nurse for an additional 16 years. Following her career of travel and service, she returned to reside next to her first love, the Elk River.

She was born Gretchel Denise Duffield in Montgomery, West Virginia in May of 1948, to the union of Harry Duffield, Sr. and Arthella Duffield.  In heaven, Gretchel reunited with her parents and five siblings, Sharon Kirby, Harry Duffield, Jr., Kenneth Duffield, Richard Allen “Buddy” Duffield, and Sonja Taylor.  Gretchel is survived in this world by a loving family including her two sons, Tony and Jonathan Bartlett; two daughters-in-law, Jackie Bartlett and Jill Bartlett; and two grandsons, Joseph and Samuel Bartlett.

Gretchel loved fishing, crafting, cooking, gardening and enjoying the outdoors. She always looked forward to time spent with family and friends, along with opportunities to curl up and watch a scary movie. She lived life her way, and those of us who knew and loved her will keep her stories alive and well in our hearts.

In keeping with Gretchel’s wishes, she was cremated.
