Fred’s graveside service will be 1 P.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway with Reverend Mike Hoover and Reverend Austin White officiating.

A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held at a later date.

Charles Fredrick “Flyin’ Fred” Mowery, 72, of Gassaway passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 at WVU United Hospital Center, Bridgeport due to an extended illness.

He was born September 9, 1950 in Sutton to the late Dallas “Bubby” Mowery and Pauline Lois James Mowery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two infant twin brothers, Tom Mowery and Jerry Mowery; sister, Sheila Kay McCord and brother-in-law, Kenneth McCord.

Fred had many friends and was a great neighbor with a giving heart.  Being a grandfather was his pride and joy in life, and he was the best toy connoisseur and fishing pole Papaw.  He was a master mechanic in Gassaway.  He also owned and operated the FF2000 Raceway in Birch River for many years.  He got his name “Flyin Fred” from his time as a race car driver.  He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music including gospel hymns. He was a Christian by faith.

He will be forever remembered by his wife of 46 years, Wanda Jean Perrine Mowery; sons, Chris(Samantha)  Mowery of Gassaway, Sam (Ashlee) Mowery of Flatwoods; grandchildren, Conner, Carter, Dallas and Daniel; sister, Suzie (Bobby) Facemire of Gassaway; half-sister, Paula of Newark, Ohio; and many of his loving friends.

Fred’s graveside service will be 1 P.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway with Reverend Mike Hoover and Reverend Austin White officiating.
