Marjorie Joy Moyers Bourn, aged 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 31, 2024, in the Hilltop Nursing Center, Hilltop, WV. She had fallen and broken her arm three weeks prior, following recovery from a broken hip on July 4, 2023.

Joy was the eldest of nine children born on March 22, 1932 to the late Byron and the late Ruth Burns Moyers of Perkins, WV. She married Robert Jerome Bourn of Rosedale, WV on July 18, 1959, at her parents’ home.

Joy was a 1951 graduate of Normantown High School and attended Glenville State College for three years. Prior to her marriage she taught school in three different one room schools- Upper O’Brien, Middle Run and Oak Grove – all in Gilmer County, WV.

Since her marriage, Joy had lived in the farmhouse in Rosedale built by Robert’s grandfather, Charles Bourn, in 1914.

The daughter of a farmer and a farmer’s wife, Joy loved gardening and flowers. She was a dedicated canner, food preserver, and full-time mother and homemaker. Joy had a special interest in children and was always involved and supportive of her own children’s activities and interests – everything from Math Field Days to High School Football to High School Marching Band.

Joy was a 4-H leader for 10 years and attended camp with her kids as a camp counselor. She was a member of the WV 4-H All Stars. For many years she was also involved in Vacation Bible School at Rosedale Baptist Church where she had been a member since childhood.

In her spare time Joy enjoyed reading, word search puzzles and crafts such as sewing, crocheting and jewelry making.

A loving wife and mother, Joy was a hard worker and always strove to do her best at every task. Her enthusiasm and encouragement to others will be missed by her family and many others.

Joy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Jerome Bourn of Rosedale, WV; and four children, Robert Byron Bourn of Findlay, Ohio and Rosedale, WV, Beatrice Bourn Seibert (Stephen Ross Seibert deceased) of Rosedale, WV, Scott Jerome Bourn (Robin) of Rosedale, WV and Rella Bourn Cvetican (Ron) of Sutton, WV. Also, she is survived by four grandchildren, Shayla Bourn Mace (Jordan) of Mill Fork, WV, and Elijah, Ashlyn and Summer Bourn all of Rosedale, WV.

Surviving siblings are Melville Moyers (Twila) of Normantown, WV, Sharon and Dixie Moyers both of Perkins, WV and Barbara Moyers Eubank (Harold) of Jane Lew, WV.

Joy was preceded in death by four brothers, Ramon Moyers (Joan), Brooks Moyers (Linda), Jack Scott Moyers and Harlan Lee Moyers.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening on June 4, 2024, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, WV.

Her funeral service will be held 11 A.M. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Rosedale Baptist Church with Elder Larry Fisher officiating.

Interment will be in the Bourn Family Cemetery, Rosedale, WV.
