Maxine Ankrum, 93, awakened to her eternal life on the evening of March 6^th, 2023.

Maxine was born in Caress, WV (Braxton Co.) to the late Samuel Ode and Verna Ann Cutlip Bright on March 19^th, 1929.

She married William J. Ankrum on July 18, 1947, and resided in Gassaway, WV, where she raised her two sons, Michael J. Ankrum, Richard “Kenna” Ankrum, and daughter, Terri L. Ankrum (Compton). She was a 1947 graduate of Webster Springs High School, WV and was employed as an office manager for her son Michael’s dental practice in Blacksburg, VA, where she retired in 1997.

Maxine enjoyed gardening, WVU sporting events, and time with her family. She was a fun, enthusiastic, independent woman with a fabulous sense of humor. She loved to laugh, even as she aged, and brought great joy to those in her presence.

Maxine was the 8^th of 12 children born to Samuel and Verna Bright. Along with her parents and 8 siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenna and daughter, Terri. She is survived by siblings, Eldon “Bud” (Peggy) Bright, Mary Lou Hickman, Roy (Dorothy) Bright, son Michael Ankrum (Barbara), nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Her memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV. Inurnment to follow at Bealls Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.

A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
