Marvin E. “Gene” Hacker, 80, of Exchange, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at home with his family by his side.

He was born in Exchange on March 20, 1942 to the late Arthur Lee and Thelma E. Burke Hacker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Hacker, Lanta Hacker, Hurley Vance “Doc” Hacker, and Kenneth Hacker; one sister, Reva Evans; and sister-in-law, Karen Hacker.

Gene was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and was a Christian by faith. Earlier in his life he worked at Weston State Hospital in maintenance. He retired from the Central West Virginia regional Jail also as a maintenance worker. He was a farmer who enjoyed caring for his cows. He also logged and was head sawer at a saw mill. Gene had an excellent work ethic and took full advantage of the daylight hours. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren. An outdoorsmans, he enjoyed coon, rabbit and deer hunting. In his spare time he liked to go camping with his family. Gene was a physically strong person who was also strong willed.

He will be forever remembered by his wife of 61 ½ years, Mildred Posey Hacker; son, William Lewis Hacker and wife, Carolyn Sue, of Exchange; daughter, Kelli A. Wayne and husband, Sam, of Chapel; brothers, Darrell Hacker and wife, Peggy, Thomas Hacker and wife, Vada, Roger Hacker, Zendle Hacker and wife, Vickey, Ronnie Hacker and wife, April; brother-in-law, Leroy Posey; sisters, Barbara Cogar and husband, Edward “Cub”, Laura Boggs and husband, Gary, and Thelma Blake and husband, Jerry; sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Hacker and Barbara Hacker Porter; grandchildren, Sherri Hacker, Robert Heater,Ethan Hacker and wife, Morgan, Emmitt Wayne, Alexa Steele; great grandchildren, Jamie Wine, Kaleb Heater, and Ariella Steele. He is also survived by great great granddaughter, Payton and several nieces and nephews.

Gene’s funeral will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Ron Acord officiating. Interment will follow in the Hacker Family Cemetery, Exchange.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
