Grethel Ellen Clevenger Nardella passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021, in Rock Hill, SC.

Grethel was born on August 30, 1926, in Good Hope, West Virginia to Ethel Ellen Miller Clevenger and Arlen James Clevenger.

In 1949, she married Carl Nardella and moved to Gassaway, West Virginia. She was an active member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, member of the Altar Society and volunteered at the Act II store. In 2014, Grethel moved to Rock Hill where she spent her time making blankets for the Shriners Hospital for Children, crocheting hats for newborns, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards with family and new friends at her assisted living community. She proudly told everyone she was from West Virginia and never missed a chance to show people the cards she received from friends and family back home. She spent her final weeks bowling, visiting with family, and eating ice cream in the sunshine.

Grethel is preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, and husband, Carl Nardella. She is survived by her daughters Carla Nardella (Ed Degarmo), Teena Kyer (Ben), and Tammy Martin (Steve), four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV, from 5-7pm on Monday, May 24th, 2021.

A graveside service will be  held at Broad Run Cemetery in Jane Lew, WV, at 11am on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 with Father Thien Nguyen S.V.D. officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 624 Kanawha St., Gassaway, WV  26624.
