Share your Memorial with Family & Friends William Ray Deaton, 66, of Wilsie, WV departed his earthly life for his heavenly home early Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2019. After suffering long illnesses, he passed peacefully at home with his wife Anita by his side. Ray was born on October 6, 1952 at his family’s home in Lawrenceville, GA to William “Bucker” Deaton and Mary Pauline (Everett) Deaton. Ray was an award-winning bassist, bass vocalist, booking agent and bluegrass music producer. At an early age, Ray was introduced to bluegrass music by his family. They frequently sang on local radio stations as “The Country Ramblers,” which would later become “The Everett Brothers.” Ray went on to pursue a career in music that spanned 20 + years, joining “Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver”, later forming the band “IIIrd Tyme Out”, and then “The Anita Fisher Band.” His musical talent and his charming personality impacted many lives along the way. He also enjoyed go-cart racing, dirt bike riding, and vacationing with his family. He is preceded in death by his father, William “Bucker” Deaton; his mother, Mary Pauline Deaton; and his sister, Sandra Lynn Fowler. He is survived by his wife, Anita Deaton; his son, Jeff Deaton (Honi Deaton); his daughter; Christy Stocks (Larry Stocks); his stepdaughter, Whitney Facemire; his grandchildren, Chase, Beau and Finn Deaton, Madison and Logan Stocks and Bristol Patterson; his sisters, Sara Hill and Carol Hamlin; along with several nieces and nephews. The bluegrass music world has become a little quieter with the passing of Ray Deaton. He will be missed by so many! And in the words of a very dear friend “Heaven’s choir just dropped three octaves.” The family will be holding a Celebration of Life event in Georgia at a later date.
