Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Interment will be in the Beall’s Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.

Russell Lewis Paintiff Sr. born February 25, 1928 in Birch River, WV and died July 3, 2017 peacefully at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, SC. after a very brief illness.

Russ is the son of the late Jessy J. and Lucretia Tanner Paintiff of Braxton County. He was preceded in death by 8 siblings: Grover, Blanche, Ruby, Stella, Richard, Walt, Tom, and Roy. He is survived by sisters, Bettie Jarvis of Gassaway and Bessie Rice of Richwood, West Virginia.

Russ is survived by his Loving wife, Elizabeth G “Betty” Harris Paintiff, who he was married to for 69 years and four children: Jackie Lee Paintiff of Elyria, Ohio, Shirley Paintiff Alltop of Gainesville, Florida, Russell L Paintiff Jr of Hinckley, Ohio, and Glen Steven Paintiff also of Hinckley. Russ is preceded in death by twins, Timmy, and Tammy, who died in infancy. Russ is survived by five Grandchildren: Melissa Alltop, Jonathan Alltop, Erin Alltop, Breanne Paintiff and Kyle Paintiff as well as 5 great-grandchildren: Christina Alltop, Robert and Laney Herman, Abigail Hilton and Jonathan Alltop Jr. (JJ).

Russ and Elizabeth “Betty” Paintiff have resided in Hartwell, Georgia for the last 29 years where they enjoyed living near the lake and fulfilling the dream of having a small General store to serve the community. Prior to 1988, Russ lived in Hinckley Ohio and worked at Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die Welder from which he retired after 33 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Lodge Berea, Ohio and served in various capacities including through the Church Men’s club and personal Christian ministry. Russ served in the Army-Air Force during the World War II and a member of the American Legion, Hartwell Georgia. Russ was an entrepreneur all his life, educating himself in whatever “needed to be done”, mastering restoring cars to racing cars, owned, and operated a TV /Radio repair Shop, attended school for pilot license, and raising and raced Thoroughbred horses. Russ enjoyed hunting and nature.

Russ was a quiet man who served his family and God in quiet self- ministry. Always extending a helpful hand and willing to give of his time and resources with seeking nor expecting recognition. He will be missed by his wife and family, who will carry on his strength and commitment for love of God and family.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Interment will be in the Beall’s Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.
