Merle Marie Cottrill Jarvis, 100 of, Gassaway, died May 21, 2017 at the Clay Health Care Center, Big Otter.

She was born June 22, 1916 in Rosedale, WV a daughter of the late General George Cottrill and Freeda Dell Dillon Cottrill.

She was a member of the First Baptist Temple Church and was a retired cook from the Braxton County Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell J. Jarvis; two sons, Dallas Jarvis and Ernie Jarvis; brothers, Dale, Dove and Glenn; sister, Vena Putnam Clark.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry J. Jarvis of Gassaway and Gary M. Jarvis of Lorain, OH; one daughter, Eva Marie Tonkin (Jim) of Gassaway; five grandchildren, Jerry M. Jarvis (Kelli) of Gassaway, Jamie Lynn Tonkin Alward (Travis) of Plattville, Alabama, Gary Jarvis, Jr. (Krista) of Simpsonville, SC, Connie Ruth of Lorain, OH and Randy Lee Jarvis (Linda) of Amherst, OH; six great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

A special thank you to her caregivers at home, Marge Friend, Margaret Dennison and Jan Pinson. Special thanks to the wonderful care she received at the Clay Health Care Center.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway with Pastor Roger Gerwig officiating.
