Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Roy Edward (Eddie) Cogar, 71, of Gassaway, West Virginia, died peaceably at home Sunday, January 17, 2016, after a long illness with pancreatic cancer. He fought a hard fight for almost three years. He was born September 28, 1944. Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Roy B. Cogar and his mother, Anna Glenith Roby Cogar. Eddie is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lela Joan (Joanie) Cogar; sons, Todd and wife, Christine Cogar of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brett and wife, Tricia Cogar of Louisville, Kentucky; stepdaughter, Melissa Hawkins of Sutton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Shanna, Samantha, Sonya, Amanda (Zack), Kayla, Courtney, Nathaniel and Jeremiah. Caregiving was provided by Joanie, Brett, Todd, Sonya and Amanda supported by family, friends and Hospice. Eddie is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn Canfield and partner, Jim Dobbins and Shelva Webb and husband, Charlie; three brothers, Craig Cogar, Kevin Cogar and Kenneth Cogar and wife, Kathy. Eddie held several jobs throughout his life. After graduation from high school he worked a short time at the local water company. He then moved to Ohio where he was employed by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and later by Irwin Auger Bit. He moved back to WV in 1980 where he retired with West Virginia American Water Company. Eddie was a passionate hunter and fisherman. He was active in the Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter 825.
