August Salvatore DePhillips, a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, song, and unwavering love.

Born on March 28, 1939, in Teaneck, New Jersey, August led a life rooted in faith, family, and selfless service. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon DePhillips; his children, John De Phillips, August DePhillips, Andrea Miller, Danny Beardsley, Jimmy DePhillips and 26 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He will join his 2 deceased children Renee DePhillips and Lisa DePhillips. Together, August and Sharon opened their hearts and home to more than 20 foster children, raising each one with compassion and care.

August served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, he built a successful career as a foreman for US Airways and pursued his passion for aviation by building aircraft himself—an embodiment of his craftsmanship and dedication.

A man of deep and active faith, August was a cornerstone of Vina Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, music director, Awana leader, and member of the board of deacons. He immersed himself in daily scripture and theological study, always striving to live by the principles of the Gospel. Music filled his life—he played guitar and sang both at home and in church, bringing joy to those around him.

Known for his kind heart and mischievous smile, August brought light into every room. He created and shared his own version of Parcheesi boards, read voraciously, and loved surrounding himself with his writings and devotionals. Above all, he loved his family—especially his dear wife Sharon—and cherished every moment they shared.

A celebration of August’s life will be held at a later date. Please reach out to the family directly for more information.
