Robert (Bob) Lee Garcia, 72, of Exchange, WV, passed into heaven on February 27, 2025, at his home, surrounded by those who loved him.

He was born on March 2, 1952 in Philippi, WV, and spent most of his life in Barbour County before retiring to Braxton County.

Bob’s greatest joy in life was his family. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Dot Garcia, and his children: Joseph, James, Robert, Jason, Amanda, Karissa, and his youngest son, Joshua, whom he lovingly called “the son of his old age.” He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one great-granddaughter, with another great-granddaughter soon to be born. His love, guidance, and unwavering support shaped the lives of those closest to him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Emmett Workman, who raised him with love and care.

Though he left school in the eighth grade, Bob was determined to build a better future for himself and his family. He earned his GED and went on to become an EMT and later a paramedic, dedicating countless hours as a volunteer with the Barbour County ambulance service. Never one to stop learning, he pursued nursing, first becoming an LPN and later an RN, graduating from Davis & Elkins College.

For thirty years, Bob worked the night shift as a nurse at Huttonsville Prison, proudly and tirelessly supporting his family. His dedication to both his profession and his loved ones was a testament to his strength, resilience, and deep sense of responsibility.

In his free time, Bob loved visiting the Braxton County Senior Center, fishing whenever he had the chance, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. These simple joys brought him happiness and allowed him to create cherished memories with those he loved.

The family would like to express a special thanks to WV Caring and Braxton County Senior Center for their love and support.
