Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Catherine Barbara Armstrong, 77, of Morgantown, formerly of Arlington, Virginia), passed away at home on Monday, May 20, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Fort Totten, NY on January 2, 1947, to the late Daniel Kevin Byrne and late Helena Nickerson Byrne of Seaford, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LTC James T. Armstrong and her brother, Sean Byrne. Catherine took great pride in her service as an operating room nurse in Qui Nhon, Vietnam, and in her later achievement of a Masters in Nurse Midwifery from Georgetown University. She enjoyed her life in Morgantown surrounded by friends, neighbors and fellow members of her church. She often spoke fondly of her upbringing in a military family and her later marriage to a career Army officer and their life overseas. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Attorney Daniel K. Armstrong and wife, Jerri, of Elkview; daughter, Dr. Caroline Armstrong and husband, Mike Riley, of Petersburg, WV; grandchildren James Armstrong and Calvin Riley; her brother and his wife Thomas & Terri Byrne of Gloucester Point, Virginia, and sister, E. Ann Byrne of Newport News, Virginia. Catherine will also be mourned by her stepson, David Ian Armstrong and his wife, Christy and their children Lindsey and Wells Armstrong of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
