Funeral service will be 2 P.M. Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Reverend Linn Schiefer officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Carl Lee James, 83, of Gassaway, WV, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at River Oaks, Clarksburg, WV.

He was born April 20, 1937 in Widen, WV, a son of the late Harry Carl and Hazel E. Brady James.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Jean James; son, Harry Carl James; and his brother, Charlie “Tink” James.

Carl was a 1956 graduate of Gassaway High School.  He dedicated his life to serving his country and its defenders in the United States Navy.  He was in the Vietnam War while he was enlisted and retired from the Navy with 24 years of service.  After returning home he worked for the United Mine Workers in Drennen.  After Drennen, he worked for Kenton Meadows Company.  Carl loved to fish.  He also enjoyed squirrel and deer hunting.  He was a vegetable gardener.  He and his family and friends enjoyed playing the card game, Set Back.  He was a good friend.

He will be remembered by his son, Jason James and wife, Jennifer, of Gassaway; and his grandchildren, Lillie, Lila and Landon.
