John Frederick “Dude” Engel, 85, of Crooked Fork, passed away on July 29, 2019 at home after a long illness.

He was born October 17, 1933 in Braxton County, a son of the late Charles O. and Nellie Meadows Engel.

Dude served his country in the United States Army from April 26, 1956 till April 3, 1958.  He was an equipment operator and farmer.  He was employed by Engel Drilling and J.C. Baker and Sons.  Dude was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Katherine Engel Jones.

Dude is survived by his wife, Dessa Kathleen Young Engel; sons, John Daniel Engel and David Samuel Engel, both of Gassaway; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Fairview United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Carr officiating.  Interment will be in the Chrisman Cemetery, Crooked Fork Rd.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 P.M. Friday, August 2, 2019 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 48 Nicholas Run, Gassaway, WV 26624  or Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, 5846 Chapel Rd., Gassaway, WV  26624.
