I met James through Lodge. I learned a good deal from him. He was always friendly. He was an inspiration to many.

We are sorry for your loss of your Dad, James. We enjoyed the railroad stories he told. He was full of information about the work he liked to do. He enjoyed his work with wood and the things he made. He always had a smile and always spoke. He was a special man to know. We are sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers, love, Brenda and Kenton Kniceley

Growing up, I really looked up to my Uncle James. We got to travel from Huntington to Gassaway several times during the year to visit my grandparents, Lertie and Edith Keener. Uncle James was my mother Ruthalea's younger brother. He was so attentive and kind to my sister Nancy and me. He took me hunting several times and was so patient with me when I made too much noise and scared off the squirrels. I really admired his ability to build things. He practically built his own home. He was a real craftsman when it came to woodworking. Without any formal training, Uncle James was able to build numerous pieces of beautiful furniture. Did I mention that he could fix anything? He modified an old VW engine and built a 4 wheeler that John David used to drive around. He was really fun to be around and he really loved his family. Uncle James was our family historian and he kept up with cousins and relatives. He proudly served his country and was a faithful member of his church. Nancy and I regret not being able to attend his funeral service. Please know that Jimmy and Linda and their family are in our prayers. Steven, Jennie and Nancy Dorsey

Uncle James was my grandmother’s (Ruthalea’s) younger brother. I pray that God comforts you with loving memories and brings you peace during this difficult time. What a wonderful and honorable life he lived.
