Harold “Junior” Holmes

Harold “Junior” Holmes, 78, of Birch River, entered into his heavenly home on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

He was born in Sutton on September 27, 1946, to the late Harold Emerson Holmes and Arlene Dixie Frame Holmes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Holmes.

Junior was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Sundays were spent driving the backroads. When the timing was right one could find him foraging for ginseng and mushrooms. Junior was an asphalt plant manager and ran a rock quarry in Birch River earlier in his work career. He also worked road construction and heavy equipment on Route 19 when they expanded the lanes in 1980’s. He enjoyed being with his family. Like most people he had big dreams to go cross country in a RV, but he never made it. Right before he passed away, he told his family that he was going fishing with his own father (in Heaven). He will be missed.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 58 years, Malisia Dobbins Holmes; son, Harold Junior Holmes II of Little Hocking, Ohio; daughter, Crystal Holmes of Birch River; stepson, Jerry Lynn Dobbins and wife, Tammy, of Lexington, KY; siblings, Garrel Holmes and wife, Kate, of Birch River, Patricia Holmes Wilson and husband, Clyde, of Birch River, Darrel Holmes of Birch River, Linda Casto and husband, Virgil, of Canvas, WV, and Tim Holmes of Birch River; and several nieces and nephews.

Junior’s visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Roach Funeral Home, 708 Braxton Street, Gassaway.

His funeral will be held 12 Noon on Monday, March 24th at the funeral home with Reverend Linn Schiefer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Birch River Cemetery, Birch River (near the elementary school).

The family would like to give special thanks to all the nurses at the Kanawha Hospice for their compassionate care of Junior.
