Friday, February 2, 2024, at Roach Funeral Home, 708 Braxton Street, Gassaway with Pastor Lester “Buddy” Lemon officiating. His burial will follow in the Braxton Memorial Cemetery, Sutton. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. James Alvin Wilson, 88, of Sutton passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home. He was born November 23, 1935, in Gassaway to his father, Shirley Alvin Wilson and mother, Leto Phillips Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Shaver Carpenter. James (Jim to his friends and family) loved his family, many friends and his church family. He worked 51 years, retiring from the heating and air conditioning. He was a jack of trades and did a little bit of everything in his work experience. Jim was a great outdoors enthusiast. He shot archery, and for one year he was the Virginia State Champion in the Bow Hunter class! He was a longtime member of the Izaak Walton League. He shot the Black Powder competition as a Member of the North-South Skirmish Association. Jim loved camping and fishing. He enjoyed deer hunting on his mountain home. Laughing and making people happy is what Jim liked to do. He was a hard-working man, a family man, a great and loving husband and father and a devoted Christian. He attended and was a member of Shavers Fork Community Church. Jim was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 67 years, Flossie May Fletcher Wilson; two children James A. Wilson, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Webster Springs, WV, and Mary Wilson Hollenbach and husband, Mark, of Stafford, Virginia; three grandchildren, Billy Hollenbach and his wife, Joanne, Craig Wilson and Kyle Wilson; two great grandchildren; one brother, Richard A. Wilson and wife, Jan, of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Jeannette King and her husband, Frank. Jim’s funeral will be 2 P.M.
