Michael Allen Lemon, 22, of Gassaway passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Nationwide Childrens Hospital, Columbus, Ohio due to complications of heart surgery. Preceding Michael in death were his aunt, Tracy Frame; cousin, Hunter Lemon; grandparents, Harry and Eleanor Wood Lemon; and grandfather, Forrest Frame. Michael grew up on Sugar Creek in Gassaway. As a youngster he was excited to participate in Braxton County Little League and Braxton County Soccer League. Growing up he had good grades in school and had many friends who found comfort in Michael’s smile, words, and nonjudgmental demeanor. In a world full of hate, Michael always chose to be humble, patient and kind, never hurting anyone. He was the funniest comic relief, always knowing what to say or do to lighten other’s moods. During his teen years he was a trumpeter in the Braxton County Middle School and High School Bands. After graduating from Braxton County High School in 2019, third in his class, he was off to West Virginia University. This spring, he traveled to the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah and participated in the University Rover Challenge where he and others designed and built the next generation of the Mars Rover. As a member of Team Mountaineers, they were crowned best in the world, competing with 31 teams from 10 countries. Michael graduated Magna cum Laude from WVU this Spring with a degree in computer science. He was a goal setter with grit that was trying to secure a job in his educational field. Michael enjoyed learning and helping others. Let it be noted that he could teach others what he understood, helping them with their complicated homework or the complexities of their lives. A Christian by faith, he attended Hope Baptist Church and he was baptized in 2009. He had been living with his congenital heart problem since he was six months old and had beaten the odds several times in his 22 years. His impact in his short life was significantly more than some who had a whole lifetime to make a mark. This loving son, brother, grandson, friend, and neighbor was ready to face the world. We all are finding it hard to believe that Michael is gone, however, to find a piece of solace is to see that his life ended on such a high note. May we all live like Michael striving for excellence with such a pleasant personality. His memories will be forever cherished by his parents, Greg and Susan Lemon, of Gassaway; brother, Matthew Lemon of Gassaway; grandmother, Shelvy Frame of Gassaway; uncle, Dave Lemon (Kerri) of Heaters; aunt, Karen Callison (Craig) of Gassaway; several cousins, great aunts and uncles; college roommate, Noah Hamrick III and close friend, Lydia Moran. Visitation will be 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, September 11, 2023 at Gassaway Baptist Church. His funeral will be 1 P.M. Tuesday, September 12th at the church with Reverend Rich Demastus and Reverend Robey Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Jerushia Church Cemetery at the head of Sugar Creek.
