Esther Smarr Smith

Esther Smarr Smith, 99, of Gassaway passed away at home on Monday, January 23, 2023.

She was born in Braxton County on June 17, 1923, to the late Ezra and Lidia Dobbins Smarr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Chaney; brother, Chester Smarr; and sister, Letha Smith.

Esther enjoyed spending time and talking with her sister.

Left to cherish her memory is her granddaughter, Erica Chaney Koenig of Oregon; great-grandchildren, Wolfgang Sebastian Koenig, and Leopold Xavier Koenig; son-in-law, Dan Chaney, of New Mexico; sister, Virgie Best, of Gassaway where she made her home the last 6 years; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 P.M. Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Mark Stump officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
