Steven Michael “Mike” Simons, 64, of Gassaway passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born February 5, 1958, in Gassaway to Julious “Julie” Westfall of Heaters and the late Johnny Robert Simons. Mike retired as a surveyor from G.A. Covey Engineering. He loved his family and especially enjoyed being a grandfather. He like to cut timber in his spare time. He enjoyed fishing with his wife at Holly Gray Park. Mike enjoyed playing pool and when he was younger, he often played at Mae’s Snack Bar in Sutton. He taught his daughter to play pool too. Fixing lawnmowers and weed eaters was a job that he could do well. He had a servant heart, and you could find him mowing his family’s yards weekly. He was a Christian by faith and attended the Pulse Church in Gassaway. He was the former co-owner and operator of the City Diner in Gassaway. He will be missed. In addition to his mother, Mike will be forever remembered by his wife, Sandy Compton Simons, of Gassaway; daughter, Michelle Short (Sam) of Fairmont; stepsons, Franklin Compton (Terri) of Gassaway, J.D. Whitesel (Dawn) of Gassaway, and Joshua Whitesel (Alyssa) of Gassaway; brothers, Eddie Simons and Timothy “Tim” Simons (Treva) all of Heaters; grandchildren, Logan and Lance Short; step grandchildren, Lexi Whitesel, Thomas Whitesel, Braydan Whitesel, Shellie Whitesel, Steven Whitesel, Natalya Whitesel, and Kyler Compton.
