Charles Arlos “Spanky” Cutlip, 99, of Gassaway, WV passed away peacefully Monday, March 30, 2020 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 27, 1920 in Cutlip’s Fork, WV to the late Burton L. Cutlip and Maude L. Simmons Cutlip. He faithfully attended Frametown United Methodist Church for over 78 years. He served in the US Army during WWII and afterwards became an engineer for the railroad. After retirement, he stayed active volunteering with the Mountaineer Food Bank, woodworking, raising Angus beef, gardening and was a member of the Central WV Beekeepers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Francine McMorrow Cutlip and son, Stephen Cutlip; sisters, Mary Rose and Argie Murphy and brothers, Harley, Burton, James, John and William. He is survived by a sister, Lura Rose of OH and a brother, Robert (Barbara) Cutlip of FL. Also surviving are daughter, Sue (Ed) Wymer of Strasburg, VA and a son, David (Judy) Cutlip of Gassaway, WV and daughter-in-law, Kathy Cutlip of Exchange, WV; grandchildren, Jackie (Robert) Speiden, Nikki (Paul) Taylor, Russell (Bridget) Wymer all of VA, Sarah (Ross) Bailey of Morgantown, WV and Jennifer (John) King of Clendenin, WV. He had 7 great-grandchildren, Timmy and Riley McDonald, Corey Peer, Reese Taylor, Julianna Bailey, Caroline and Eliza King, and 7 great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend thanks to Spanky’s special friends and neighbors Earl and Mary Ann Reynolds, who have gone above and beyond to help out in recent years.
