Joshua Balcourt

Joshua Balcourt, 42, our beloved son, brother, father and uncle, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of June 1, 2018.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Jordan Balcourt, his parents, steve and Gail Balcourt, his sister Ruth Estep and her husband walter, his niece Emma Estep, and nephew Ethan Estep. Joshua also leaves behind his New York family, Uncle Barry Balcourt and his wife Linda, cousins Jeff and Sindy. Uncle Alan Balcourt and his wife Kristin, Aunt Debbie Balcourt, cousins Kelly, Jonathan, Justin, Sam, Mia and Eli. Aunt Linda Williams and husband Robert, cousins Jennifer, Julie and Christopher.

Uncle Gary Martin and wife Grace, cousins Tiffany, Ali, Bobby. Uncle Bob Wenninger and wife Carol, cousins Susan, Geoff and Jamie. Josh is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Edward and Harriet Balcourt, and maternal grandparents Robert and Joan Martin.

Josh was born in Charleston, WV on an unusually warm day, December 5, 1975. As a young boy growing up on a 35 acre hilltop farm in Shock, Gilmer County, WV, Josh loved helping out with all the farm chores, feeding the rabbits, milk goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys and hogs. Being a home-schooled student till the 8th grade, he would often go squirrel hunting in the early morning hours to unwind before classwork would begin. He liked to hunt for wild turkeys and shot his first buck at the age of 10 with a shotgun using a slug round. He was a trapper, a fisherman and an avid coon hunter who raised and trained registered Redbone Coon dogs. He also liked to hunt for bears in a place called Bear Fork, adjacent to our farm. Josh graduated from Braxton County High School in 1994.

For the last 23 years Josh worked as an expert tree trimmer and logger, most recently working on the effort to restore power to millions of residents in the state of Florida after the devastating hurricanes last year. Josh had a gentle and caring soul. He loved life and the people in his circle of family and friends. If anyone asked him for a helping hand, he was there for him or her without reservations.

Our heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone from the Braxton EMS crew, ER Dr. Guy Leveaux, Kirk Hyre, RN, Sooner Knight, respiratory therapist, Whitnee Davis, RT and all of the staff at Braxton Memorial Hospital not mentioned who attended to our son. Also thank you to Richard M. Roach Funeral Home for their services. A celebration of Josh’s life will be held at a later date.

Josh Balcourt was most definitely a force to be reckoned with! He will be truly missed by all who got to know him.
