Nancy Perkins Knight, 86, of Gassaway, died November 20, 2015. She is survived by her son, Stephen M. “Sooner” Knight and wife, Tina of Gassaway and close friends, Bill and Denise Mowery of Gassaway. Nancy was the daughter of the late Jackson Earl and Minnie Smarr Perkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lowell W. Knight in September; brothers, Joe (Lorraine) Perkins of Louisa, KY and Dayton “Pee Wee” (Eva) Perkins of Gassaway and Glenville. Nancy graduated from Gassaway High School in 1943. She received her B.A. Degree from Marshall College (Marshall University) and her M.A. Degree from West Virginia Unitversity. Nancy taught school at two of the last one-room schools in Braxton County, Triplett and Haymond (Chemical Town). She was an English and Social Studies teacher at Gassaway High School and a reading and English teacher at Braxton County High School. Nancy was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gassaway where she had also served as a deaconess. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gassaway with the Rev. Barbara Accord officiating. Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
