Hazel Marie Mitchell Simms

Hazel Marie (Mitchell) Simms, of Frametown, WV, passed into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Madison Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Morgantown, WV at the age of 72.

She was born June 26, 1943 near Belfont, WV, the daughter of the late Lucy Alice (Boone) Mitchell and the late Charles Wilson. Hazel was a 1961 graduate of Gassaway High School. After graduation, she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Gassaway Hospital. She was a substitute cook for the Braxton County School system. Later in life Hazel was an in-home caregiver for many elderly individuals throughout the Braxton County area. She was a devoted homemaker caring for her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years Robert F. “Bob” Simms of Frametown, WV; siblings Iva Keller of St. Petersburg, FL, Ernest Mitchell of Nelson, OH, Robert Mitchell of Burton, OH and Wilma Collopy of Garrettsville, OH.

Hazel enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to cook, can, bake, read, spend time with her grandchildren and socialize with family and friends. She had a wonderful laugh that could light up any room.

Hazel is survived by her children, Robert E. “Bobby” Simms of Frametown, WV, Philip Ray Simms of Frametown, WV, Stuart Justin Simms (Deanna) of Clendenin, WV and Leslie Marie Wilson (James) of Morgantown, WV; five grandchildren Callie M. Simms (Mark) of Birch River, WV, Caitlyn M. Simms and Caleb J. Simms of Gassaway, WV, Lucas T. Wilson and Seth R. Wilson of Morgantown, WV; one great-grandchild Kasen M. Shaver; sister Margaret Henderson of Bethesda, MD. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and lifelong friend Mary Ruth Hacker of Wilsie, WV who was more like a sister to her.

A memorial service will be held on January 9, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV with Pastor Daniel Tanner officiating. Friends may visit from 1-3 p.m. to pay their respects. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hazel’s life.
