Ona Belle Boone

Ona Belle Boone, age 98, of Wilsie, WV, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2017. She was at home surrounded by her family. She was born January 11, 1919 in Gilmer County. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother who greatly valued her family. She thought of everyone else before herself. She was a member of the Charity Baptist Church.

Belle loved the outdoors and had a passion for quilting, raising gardens and tending her flowers. During winter months, she quilted by hand and made many beautiful quilts for herself, her children and grandchildren. She was a regular participant in Senior Center activities in Gassaway and Rosedale.

In addition to her parents, Alexander and Lydia Jenkins Schoolcraft, she was preceded in death by William Delford Boone, her husband of nearly 50 years. Also preceding her were: son, Hughie Boone; daughters, Edna Shepherd, Lula West and Anna Duffield; sister Anna Stout; brothers, Ralph Schoolcraft, Donnie Jenkins, Foster, Hartzel, Robert, Arthur, Forrest, Harper and Walter “Doc” Schoolcraft.

She is survived by sons, Donald Darris Boone (Donna), and Minter Garrett Boone (Buffy); daughters, Ellen Boone (Frank Light), Nancy Fanning and Dianna Grounds (Doug); 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and 5 great-great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 12 Noon on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Charity Baptist Church at Wilsie with Pastor Bob Paintiff officiating. Interment will be in the Schoolcraft/Boone Family Cemetery at Tague. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, March 4, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
