James Raymond “Jim” Hanshaw II

James Raymond “Jim” Hanshaw II, 76, of Sutton entered into his heavenly home on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.

He was born on January 26, 1950, in Smithers, WV.

Jim was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Virgie and Raymond Hanshaw; and by several adopted brothers and one sister.

Jim graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1969 and married the love of his life, Donna Jean Long Hanshaw, three days later. From 1971 to 1973, he served his country in the United States Army as a military policeman and was a Vietnam veteran. During his military service, he also became a father to his son, Bill. After returning home, Jim worked for Tom Bailes Construction, Halstead’s Sporting Goods, and Union Carbide. In 1981, the family moved to Braxton County, where he joined the Army Corps of Engineers and worked in Sutton Dam operations as well as sewer and water operations. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, and watching television. Above all, Jim cherished time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years, Donna Jean Hanshaw; son, William James “Bill” Hanshaw and wife, Pam, of Charleston; grandchildren, John Johnson and wife, Brandi, Chase Hanshaw and Madison Hanshaw; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated and there will be a Celebration of His Life Service at a later date.
