Chris W. Bender

Chris W. Bender, 78, of Gassaway, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital with family by his side.

He was born on October 25, 1947, in Gassaway to the late Joel and Bonnie Brady Bender.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Bender.

Chris served his country in the United States National Guard for more than 29 years, working as a cook and kitchen supervisor. He and his wife planted a vegetable garden every year.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine Deuly Bender; son, Chris W. Bender III and wife and two grandchildren; brother, Henry “Skeeter” Bender; and sisters, Zoe Bender and Patricia Ann Wilmoth; several nieces and nephews.

He will be cremated.
