Nolen “Perry” Brent Reeder

Nolen “Perry” Brent Reeder, 92, of Strange Creek, WV passed away peacefully at home in the wee hours on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, just three days shy of his 93rd birthday.

He was born on May 29, 1933, in Tague, WV to the late Harold Jackson Reeder and Zella Putnam Reeder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Hughes Reeder; son, Kimball Brent Reeder; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Flint Reeder; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta Reeder Mollohan and Glen Mollohan; mother and father-in-law, Marjorie and Creston Hughes; brother-in-law, Argene Carr and sister-in-law, Judy Hughes; grandsons, Brent Daniel Reeder and Devin Jackson Reeder; and great granddaughter, Angel Grace Justice.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, John Reeder, Robin Reeder, Melissa Ice, Joey Reeder and Abby Cutlip and husband, Mike, all of Braxton County; brother, Harlan Lowell “Peach” Reeder of Wilsie; daughter-in-law, Janet Reeder of Strange Creek; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Nellie Carr; brother-in-law, Melvin Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.

Perry was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served for two years as a military policeman in Japan. While stationed there, he purchased a beautiful set of china dishes and sent them home to his sweetheart, Dorothy Lee. He returned home with an honorable discharge, and on December 11, 1955, he and Dorothy were united in marriage, sharing 52 wonderful years together. Throughout his life, Perry held many jobs, including helping build Interstate 79 and clearing land for the construction of Sutton Dam. He was a self-taught dozer operator and also worked in timbering, mechanics, sawmilling, and farming, which was his greatest passion. In 1961, Perry and his wife bought their first farm and later purchased two more. Farming and caring for his cattle brought him his greatest joy.

Perry was a Christian by faith. Before he passed, he told his family he was ready to go and be with his wife. He loved family gatherings and spending time with those he loved. He also enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and any John Wayne movie. An avid hunter, Perry also loved fishing in the ponds on his farms.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to Janet Reeder for her love, support, and exceptional care of their father during the last six years of his life. They would also like to thank the Kanawha Hospice Team, Live Well Home Care, and the Veterans Affairs office in Clarksburg for their dedication and support during the family’s time of need.

Perry’s visitation will be held from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, WV.

His funeral will be held at 1 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Gibson officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow in the Reeder Family Cemetery, Runnion Ridge, Strange Creek.
