Johnnie Alan Massey, 73, of Gassaway, formerly of both Whitesville, WV and Conover, NC, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.

He was born on April 17, 1952, in Beckley to the late Gradie and Beatrice Stewart Massey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Massey and Basil “Bike” Massey; and sister, Betty Massey.

Johnnie was retired. He spent 18 ½ years working as a coal miner and close 20 years as a welder. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Shane Massey and wife, Farrah, of Gastonia, NC; daughter BreAnna Massey and companion, Brian Gunnoe, of Beckley; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Zach Allran, Isaac Massey, Madison Allran, Adam Massey, Seth Massey and Hannah Massey, Vanessa Gunnoe, and, Jaycee Massey; siblings, Bob Massey, Dess Lee Massey, Brenda Stevens and Rhoda Hammer; and several nieces and nephews; companion of 13 years, Sandy Jones, and two close friends, Jon Green and Eli Green.

In keeping with Johnnie’s wishes he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
