Burial will follow in the Otter Cemetery, Gassaway.

Her visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rose Catherine Keener Gunter, 83 of Gassaway, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Sutton, WV on January 31, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Martin Keener and Juanita Cole Stewart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin “Marty” Keener Jr., William “Bill” Keener, and Harry Keener; and special aunt, Hazel Riffle.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 62 years, Jerry, of Gassaway; son, Jeffrey (Luella) of Morgantown, WV, grandchildren Avery, Anna, and Emma; son, Jay of Charleston, WV, grandchildren Logan and Ryan; son, Jonathan of Winston-Salem, NC, granddaughter Lauren Mao (Vince) of Greenville, SC, great grandchildren Conner and George, son, Joel (Kelli) of Clemmons, NC, grandchildren Noah and Brooklyn.

Rose is survived by sisters, Judy Childers of Plant City, FL, and Anita Allen of Broken Arrow, OK and brother, James Keener of Michigan; special aunt, Phyllis Short of Coatesville, PA; several friends in Gassaway; and several nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Elk River Community Church in Gassaway. She was a dedicated servant to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and also loved her Church family and Community. Rose was a 1960 graduate of St. Albans High School. A lifelong resident of West Virginia, she loved the mountains and rivers ever so. She enjoyed peaceful evening walks, reading all kinds of subjects, but mostly her Bible and spiritual uplifting stories. She loved animals and cared for many, including not her own. She loved visiting and always had a special gift or two for everyone, especially for her beloved grandchildren. Over the years the visits with her children and grandchildren brought her much joy and she cherished each and every one of them. You never left her presence without a warm smile and a hug, without feeling loved, and without something special for the road.
