Mary Ruth “Ruthie” Stewart Uldrich, 78, entered into her heavenly home on Friday, June 27, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 22, 1946, to the late Mary Etta Cole Stewart and John Jacob Stewart at home on Sugar Creek in Gassaway.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Grant Uldrich I; half-sister, Macel Rose Adams; half-brothers, Claude Stewart, and Orval “Woody” Stewart; and caregiver, Carolyn Sue Cowger Cavender.

Ruthie graduated from Gassaway High School and married Tom shortly after she finished her education. Her husband worked away for his job, but they soon came back home to Braxton County and set up their residence on Sugar Creek. She and Tom raised three children together. She loved being a mother to her children and got them up for school every morning making them a hot breakfast before they walked to catch the bus. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and taking care of her house and several acres of lawn. She reveled in cooking, but baking was her niche, often preparing cakes, cookies, pies and cinnamon rolls. Refurbishing old furniture gave her great satisfaction in the before and after products. She was a retail clerk for many years at Heck’s Department Store in Gassaway before it closed and she retired. She enjoyed spending time with all her family, observing nature and viewing church services online when her health got worse. She had a quiet yet affectionate personality. We will remember her eyes that were as blue as the ocean. Ruthie was a Christian by faith, left a legacy of love, and will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Thomas Grant Uldrich II and wife, Kelly, of Charleston, WV, Jon Anthony Uldrich and wife, Kathy, of Lakeland, FL, and Heather Rhea Roach and husband, Ryan, of Gassaway, WV; grandchildren, Elainah Beth Uldrich, Willem Edward Porter, Grant Alan Uldrich, David Chad Uldrich, Nicklaus Sean Uldrich, and Tate Michael Roach; sisters, Ann Canole of Barberton, OH and Martha Lee Pritts of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

In keeping with Ruthie’s wishes, she will be cremated.

Her inurnment beside her late husband will be held 12 Noon on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Lemon Cemetery near the Jerusha Church on Sugar Creek with Reverend Jim Burrough officiating.

Special thanks to caregivers, Felicia Blake, Sandy Jones, Karla Long, Melissa Mick and all the staff and nurses at WV Caring for their compassionate care of our family through the last few difficult months.
