Emogene Payne, 81, of Sutton passed into her heavenly home on Monday, May 19, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 15, 1943, in Sutton to the Grant William Shaw Sr. and Viola Blanch Linger Shaw.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David D. Shaw, Jerry C. Shaw, John W. Shaw, and Grant Shaw, Jr; and sisters, Edna Shaw, and Patricia Payne.

Emogene was a very caring person and she had a big heart for her family. She was an animal lover and would often feed the deer at her home. She enjoyed watching nature. Before her parents died she was their caregiver.

Left to remember Emogene are her sons, Andy Payne of Sutton and Rusty Payne and wife, April, of Sutton; grandchildren, Lucas Payne of Sutton and Alexis Payne of Sutton; brother, Russell Shaw and wife, Phoebe, of Sutton; sisters, Virginia Mae Johnson and Elizabeth Utt both of Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Emogene’s wishes she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date at her brother’s church, Poplar Ridge Community Church.
