Mr. Thomas Adrian Bender, 49, of Ararat, VA, formerly of Braxton County, West Virginia went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2026, after a short illness at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy. Born on September 27, 1976, in Summersville, West Virginia, to Arnold and Mary Lou Wright Bender. Thomas was a man defined by his hard work and his devotion to those he loved.

A true enthusiast of both the outdoors and the imagination, Thomas found his joy in the hum of a NASCAR engine, the quiet patience of hunting and fishing, and his passion for flying drones. When he wasn’t outside, he could often be found immersed in a good sci-fi movie or the lore of zombies, werewolves, and vampires. Above all, he was a dedicated family man who built a life alongside his wife and companion of nearly 30 years, Rachel Irene Lane.

In addition to his parents and Rachel, his legacy lives on through his daughters, Laura (Caleb) Spurlin and Nikita Lester; and his cherished grandchildren, Kayleigh, Kadeveyan, Zyionna, Josie Irene, and Joseph. He is also survived by his siblings, Arnold Jr. (April), Lawrence James (Jennifer), BettyJo (Danny), Jerry (April) and Barbara (Chris); many nieces and nephews; and his extended family, Donnie and Patricia Adkins, Angie, Donna Kay, Vicky Adkins, and Eliana Avila. He will be deeply missed by his best pal, Cujo.

Thomas was preceded in death by a niece who loved him dearly, Maranda Bosley; and two dear friends, Keith and Jeff Adkins.

His visitation will be 1 to 3 P.M. Friday, February 20, 2026, at Roach Funeral Home, 708 Braxton Street, Gassaway.

Thomas’s funeral service will follow at 3 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Allen officiating.

In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated following services.
