Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Dixie Kay McDivitt, 56, of Birch River, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at WVU Medicine Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV. She was born on April 28, 1969, in Montgomery, WV to Walter McDivitt and the late Mavadell Williams McDivitt. Many people who knew Dixie most recently knew her as a restaurant owner and chef at her place, Dixie’s Café, in downtown Gassaway. She was community minded and would often donate to causes and worried about the well-being of her friends, family and the locals in and around the area. When Dixie was not working, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and she also took care of her companion, Ted. She had a helping heart and would do anything for anyone that needed help. Dixie truly enjoyed cooking and feeding those she knew and never met a stranger. Prior to her restaurant work, Dixie was secretary for the business that she and Ted owned, Collison Specialties, in Summersville. She and her family ran with a community of friends who enjoyed mud racing. They traveled all over the country doing the races. Her grandchildren were her number one priority. She will be deeply missed. She leaves behind her long term companion of 41 years, Ted Shaver, of Birch River; son, Mark Shaver and wife, Callie, of Birch River; grandchildren Kasen and Amelia Shaver; father, Walter McDivitt of Summersville; brother, Robert McDivitt (Teresa) of Clay; sisters, Brenda Huffman of Charleston, Connie Bennett of Birch River, Ruby Ward (Billy) of Clay, and Vicky McDivitt (Kevin) of Summersville; several nieces and nephews; many friends and patrons; and close friend, Larry Westfall of Mississippi. In keeping with Dixie’s wishes she will be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Gassaway Baptist Church, 56 Beall Drive, Gassaway. Her memorial service will follow at 7 P.M. with Pastor Jason Allen officiating. Arrangements by Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
